What is your favorite Cause?

One of the members of a group I frequent asked a great question: "Do you make tags for Causes?"  This member is not a tagger herself and she has some Causes she cares deeply about. She is having a difficult time finding tags and forum sets which would promote her Causes.

Since I felt this was a great question, I want to post a poll and see which Causes are the most followed, and then I will try to make some sets/tags so folks can have these.

Please vote for the Causes you are active in or would like to be active in. If your favorite Cause is not listed or if you can think of one not represented here, please click Other and post that in a comment. I was only able to allow for 20 slots and I could think of others but, let me know what YOU want.

Thank you to all who participate.

Fonts and more fonts

Don't you just love fonts? Seriously, no self-respecting tagger can have too many fonts! But where to find new fonts besides the same old places?

I use to download a lot of the free fonts from Fonts101.com but they changed to a installer with each download. The first time I tried it, I had some trash that was installed as well (toolbar) so I just do not use them any more.

Have you tried Google Web Fonts? Go through the list, clicking "add to collection" and when you are done, just "download collection". Awesome!

Another great site is MyFonts.com which is a paid-font site however there are free fonts if you search. You'll find many of Ray Larabie's fonts. See a collection of Larabie Fonts HERE. These free fonts can also be used commercially.

Another site is MaxFonts. It is a simple looking site but there are loads of fonts.

Absolute Fonts Archive is an interesting font site and I just stumbled upon it from surfing the web for fonts. They claim over 6,800 fonts. You could be there for days. I did find some I did not have and I only made it to "G" before my eyes gave out.

This site, Fontsner.com, boast 78,102 fonts! No, haven't counted them to make sure.

AfontZ.com offers a collection of Commercial free fonts. This is great if you are a scrapbook designer or a word art creator.

Another great site to download fonts which can be used commercially is the font section of SimplytheBest.net.  There are little "i" icons which give you more information and many of the fonts will state whether the font can be used commercially or not.

A site for premium fonts is Free Premium Fonts.  I didn't see a whole lot of new fonts for me but I have memory cards full of fonts (2,680 just in my windows font folder) so there may be some fonts that "normal" folks don't have.

This little collection of font sites should keep you busy for a while, looking for great fonts to add to your collection, so from one font addict to another.... happy searching.

Also, there is a Yahoo group for folks who love fonts. This group is a non-post-to group. You join and about once a month or so, you'll receive a zip of fonts the group owner has put together. Go through and delete what you don't want and keep the rest. No sharing of the links to zips so be sure to read the rules!

Ignis Fatuus Art Tags

When a tagger obtains personal permission to use the artwork of a new artist or illustrator, it spreads like a prairie fire through the tagging community. Each person must obtain personal permission from the artist and verify the copyright as desired by that artist.

I learned of Tatyana because a beautiful tag set was offered at Animation Lessons so I set out, as did several others, to secure permission to use the artwork of Tatyana, aka Ignis Fatuus. She is a wonderful Russian artist, who has given me permission to use her art work (excluding that with or of children).

Her website, in Russian, is http://ignisfatuus.dax.ru and I have used the url of her gallery located here http://ignisfatuus.dax.ru/drawgall.html for her credits along with the following copyright ©Ignis Fatuus per her request.

You can also find her at deviantART:  http://ignisfatuusii.deviantart.com

Please visit her galleries and discover this wonderful artist! Until she includes in her Terms of Use that taggers may use her artwork, each person will need to contact her for permission.

I hope you enjoy using these tags (which she liked as well) and there will be more to come from Tatyana.

Thank you Tatyana!

PSP vs PS For Me

First, I am NO expert by any means of either program. I am just a grandmother who enjoys tubes, tagging, digital photography and digital crafts.

I have used PSP (PaintShop Pro X and then X2) since about 2009 or thereabout. Originally using it only to touch up my ancestral photos since I am also a family genealogist. In fact, I had no idea what "Noise" was or why anyone would want it and almost deleted it from my PSP X program.

Most know I joined Animation Lessons in Aug 2010 and there I discovered what one could do with "Noise" and the entire host of goodies in PSP X and with Animation Shop 3.11.

I moved up to X2 in 2011 due to corruption of some files and became comfortable with that program in short order.

Several weeks ago I suffered yet another, more serious issue, which is going to cause me to reformat my hard drive in a few weeks as I am waiting for a 1TB external hard drive so I can move files over for preservation.

Due to this more recent issue, I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 from Amazon.com.

I bought this version because my cousin (a scrap kit designer) uses this and was able to bring me up to speed quickly

Since I have been using both, I must say there some things I like about both programs and some things I dislike about both programs.  Again, not being an expert with either, this is not an exhaustive comparison, nor is it meant to be.

Over all, I find PSP to be more user friendly and easier to grasp the concept of getting what you want to do to come together on the workspace.  In all fairness, this may just be due to my longer usage of the program and have nothing to do with the programs at all.

I do like the way you can close off layers in PS and save as a .png  or .jpg any single layer. I can't do this in PSP.

Also, there are the great styles one can apply to text that you don't have with PSP, or at least I have not found them.

I do NOT like how I can not create text on a layer in PS and just copy and paste it into Animation Shop as a new animation without it appearing on a white background. I have to save each text layer as a .png and then open it in AS if I want to have the transparent background.

Most of the same filters work in each program but Corel has a few standard filters (like the bubbles) that I can't duplicate in PS.

Again, all of this could just be due to operator error and NOT program defects.

Both programs are great and even after I reformat my hard drive, I will continue to use both programs.

I would really like to get some feedback because I'll bet many of you have used both programs and can offer even more information than my little spattering here.
